cross stitch buttons
ive never sewn before, i need help!!! please?

a button fell off of my boyfriends suit coat and i need to figure out how to get it back on and make it look good. i have the thread and needle already, but i need to actually know these things

when i put the string threw the hole do i tie it on the actual hole? or do i make it even and tie it at the end.. i dont even know what to do after the string is in the hole.

then when i get it tied do i do a criss cross stitch? or is there some way to sew a button on that wont make it look tacky? any help would be great!

5 stars to the most helpful answer… i dont need links to other sites, im in a hurry so if you could just easily explain it that would be awesome

It’s easier to show you than tell you:

If the other buttons are sewn on in an X, do so on this one. If they’re sewn together as two parallel lines, do that — the object is to match the other buttons.
